What I found about Senior Dental Insurance

Senior Dental Insurance

With the changes in healthcare availability, plans, and options, I was surprised to discover that my insurance plan no longer offers vision or dental insurance. At least I was when I looked over my elderly mother’s policy. Senior dental insurance is important for her as she has dental issues cropping up all the time. For many of us, good teeth equates to good health.

My Dad actually wanted to let his dental insurance lapse, but I was against this. Even though my parents have Medicare, such services don't cover senior dental care. Senior dental insurance provided by Medicare typically covers tooth extractions but still doesn’t offer benefits or insurance coverage for typically common procedures that are often required by older adults. That includes tooth repair or replacing missing teeth!

Seniors need proper dental care, especially because as seniors age, they can have multiple health issues but little money to pay for dental care. I found out that having one tooth pulled can cost over $300, and a new set of dentures could cost an average of $3,500! I don't price these things very much and to say I was shocked at these prices without Senior Dental Insurance is an understatement.

I did more research and found that seniors have options for what are called discount plans. I got online and typed in "dental insurance alternatives for seniors" and "dental discount plans" and was amazed at the number of options available. I am glad I checked for my parents as they were going to give up to save a few dollars a month...one session with the dentist can be the cost of several months of premiums.

Senior Dental Insurance - Most Aren't Covered?
by: Jo

I read somewhere that over $105 billion is spent every year on dental care, and a lot of that is paid out-of-pocket by adults and seniors because their senior dental insurance plans don't provide adequate coverage.

I like the discount plans because you get charged the same every month regardless of pre-existing conditions, and you don't have to pay premiums.

The discount plans for senior dental insurance provide members with access to discounts at dental offices, significantly lowering out-of-pocket costs. You should check it out...

Senior Dental Insurance - What Medicare Doesn't Cover
by: Darlene

This is a good idea. Like you, I didn't realize that Medicare didn't provide senior dental insurance services for my grandmother until she needed to have several teeth pulled.

The family had to pitch in and pool our resources to get Grandma dentures. Now we know better. Thanks!
