Senior Crafts

I was cleaning out my grandmother’s attic the other day and came across some old rolls of wallpaper – a unique vintage design that I just didn’t want to throw away! I took the roll down to her and she mentioned it was used in a project at an older house over 30 years ago and was commenting how much she had loved it. Once I heard that, I just knew I had to find some crafts that used wallpaper and see what we could do that would allow her to use up scraps of the paper and display it in her current home.

My grandmother is a bit frail, so I was browsing through wallpaper crafts for seniors and came across the easy idea of wrapping a mat from a picture frame in the wallpaper and then using some old pictures to finish off the project. All we had to do was buy a few inexpensive pictures frames, which included the plain mats – we got a few different sizes to create a collage wall for my grandmother’s living room. We took the mats and covered them with double-stick tape and placed them on the backside of the wallpaper, then pressed firmly and I helped cut the wallpaper down to size with scissors.

Our next task was to find a few pictures in the photo album to use in the frames, and my grandmother had such a nice time sharing the pictures with me and telling me little stories from a number of the pictures. We selected a few and added them to the frames, then hung them on her wall to enjoy.

Old Attic Stuff can be New Again
by: Dianna

This wallpaper craft idea sounds fun, especially encouraging a senior to go through some old stuff in the attic and as a family member, we all learn more about those who came before us.

Plus, it helps our elder remember certain events, which is always good when trying to enhance cognitive function.

Great idea – thanks for sharing!

What a unique idea to use up old scraps of wallpaper!

I did something similar with some old wallpaper that I found in my parents garage – we covered some old tables with the paper and used them as accent décor throughout the house and as drawer liners for the bathroom and kitchen.
