Mother, 101 Years Old and Still Living at Home

by Anonymous

I have not taken care of parents in my home, but next door. My dad has been gone for 26 years, but when he had a stroke in 1976 mom took him home and cared for him for 13 years. I went over every day to help with what I could.

I always took them to all doctor appointments and anything else they needed. After he died, my mom took her brother in who had broken his back. He walked with braces on his legs.

Then I was needed more, every day went to help out. She broke her wrist a couple times so I had to make meals for a while.

I had 3 kids and a husband but felt they were not given full attention. My uncle died in 2002.

My mom is now 101 and still living in her house but needs lots of help. I've been helping for 38 years and I'm now 71.

I think about all I would have liked to do, but couldn't because of the guilt of leaving them alone.

I am an only child, so I've done it all and still am. I understand everyone's feelings about caring for a parent. It wears you out.

Lately mom has not slept well and has pains but will not go to the doctor. I worry constantly.

Just wish she would go peacefully at home. But I don't know what will happen. I'm so worn out.
