Health Insurance for Seniors

Rising health care costs, reduced benefits, higher premiums and deductibles often prevent seniors from maintaining their health insurance policies. However, health insurance is important, especially for seniors.

A number of national and international insurance companies provide coverage for seniors. That includes government-sponsored services as well as supplemental health insurance policies. However, costs are always a consideration. This is especially true for seniors who are on fixed incomes or, due to retirement, eventually slip into lower income groups.

My parents have health insurance, but I know some who don't. That's why I always suggest that they do some cost comparisons between leading health insurance companies.

Keep in mind that the longer you wait or the older you are before obtaining health insurance, the more expensive it can be. That goes for pre-existing conditions as well.

That's why I suggest that anyone who has elderly parents or loved ones who are not yet covered by senior health insurance to look for government-sponsored or independent insurance options for coverage.

As we age, the likelihood of accidents, illness, and sometimes chronic disease processes can take its toll. It's hard enough dealing with the physical ramifications of aging without adding financial burden and debt on top of it.

Health Insurance for Seniors who Lost Coverage
by: Anonymous

In response to the man whose elderly uncle lost his health insurance, have him call the Local Council on Aging, or local or state governmental agencies on aging or the Department of Health and Human Services to find options for at least minimal coverage that can provide him protection, physically and financially.

My elderly uncle lost his health insurance because he couldn't pay the premiums, and now he's having trouble getting coverage even with the cheaper providers because of his pre-existing condition of diabetes. It makes you wonder how our older generation is going to get by.

Health Insurance for Seniors

My elderly parents are both covered under Medicare plus supplemental health insurance for seniors. Still, they do end up paying a portion of a certain costs, which can be a burden for anyone on a fixed income.

The cost of some other medications is outrageous! Scares me to think of the future not only for them but my husband and myself later on..
