Halloween Knitting Ideas

My mother and grandmother instilled a love for knitting in me, so now that I am a caregiver for my mom I love to have her spend time knitting with me each week.

Our favorite time of year starts in fall, when we can start with some Halloween knitting ideas and go all the way through the holidays, working on small projects.

While my mother loves to knit, she can’t work on large projects like she used to, so I turn to the Internet for patterns and Halloween knitting ideas, such as small pumpkins or caps to scarves to wear and then we do the same thing for the other holidays.

There are plenty of free knitting patterns for Halloween available for use (http://www.allfreeknitting.com/Halloween-Knits) the knitted pumpkin patterns are our favorite because they don’t take a lot of time or dedication and they make cute gifts to hand out to friends and family for the holiday.

To make knitting a bit easier for mom, I choose patterns that take larger knitting needles so she can grasp them easily. Large chunky black and orange scarves are easy to make using larger needles and I know everyone loves receiving a handmade gift from her.

Another option is to use a yarn type that has a heavier gauge. Even if you and your loved one don’t have a background in knitting, taking up a new project is always a great way to keep your family member learning new things and strengthening mental and physical skills.

Knitting Patterns for the Holidays
by: Sharon

So nice to see a range of projects to do online! My grandmother often gets bored by using the same pattern repeatedly, so having these Halloween knitting ideas gives her some variety and helps me look for other knitting patterns to try for other holidays.

Change in Knitting Supplies

My mom also loved to knit, but she was having a hard time with the smaller needles – once we went up to a larger size needles and made bulkier projects, she was perfectly able to get back to her favorite pastime.

Sometimes it’s just about modifying a task that makes the biggest difference to the quality of life for a loved one.
