Getting Everyone Involved?

by Anne
(New Jersey)

Suppose siblings don't want to become involved? That's where the resentment comes in. I just bought my dream house and took Dad to see it since he will be living there also.

He asked 8 times where his bedroom was. We ( guy friend and I) took him into town to get something to eat and steered him around. It doesn't look as if I will be enjoying my new home very much since Dad is like a toddler at this point.

You have taken on your Mom's roll as do many other children. I have to say I admire your love and care toward your grandmother. Your husband is a trooper. God bless you!

I am taking care of my dad who had a stroke and now has behavior and social challenges. Defiant to the end. My siblings do not help, they have anger issues from childhood.

I don't blame them now that I am in this position. He has hitchhiked many times. He has gotten kicked out of McDonald's and Burger King.

I tried taking him to the movies and he spit every, every, every popcorn kernel on the floor. It looked like gravel by the time we left.

The next time I decided we will just skip the popcorn. He had a different plan. He leaves the theater to go to restroom, comes back with a bucket of popcorn even though he didn't have a penny in his pocket.

This is the kind of behavior I deal with weekly. Now I have just reduced the time we spend around other people. This is a tough job. It's more than tough.
