Family Tree Scrapbooking

My mom loves the show, ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ which revolves around celebrities learning about their ancestry. I started to watch the show with her and after a while, we were hooked!

The interesting premise and a lack of knowledge around my own family history had me asking Mom about her family and all the information she remembers. We decided to go through some old photos and organize them – after all, I don’t know a lot of the early family members and need to write down the information before my mother is no longer able to remember.

While we were going through the pictures, I thought it would be a wonderful memento to hold a family tree scrapbooking day once a week, where we piece together pictures and stories with beautiful craft papers and fun embellishments.

Family tree scrapbooking can be as detailed or selective as you want. Since my mom was able to remember a few generation’s worth of names, I added the picture to the album and wrote down what I could.

When I went home, I’d do a little research and see what I could report back to her – we both feel like we are uncovering so much about our family that she has either forgotten or we never knew in the first place.

I love this experience with my mom and family tree scrapbooking is a fun way to learn about your loved ones, while also encouraging your parent or grandparent to use memory skills and feel accomplished at the end of the day.

Aside from the creative aspect of scrapbooking for fun, this is one craft idea that just has so much meaning!

Once our loved ones are no longer with us, we are going to be so glad to have these albums filled with so much history, stories and photographs. This is a great idea..thanks for sharing!

Family Tree Scrapbooking has Created a Legacy for Our Family
by: Susan

That is the best way to spend time with a loved one! I’ve created many family tree scrapbooking albums using a variety of pictures and then giving them to my siblings.

It’s special to have a legacy of our own and we are all grateful that we had enough information from our parents to keep searching for more about our relatives.
