Elderly Parents Activities - Day Trips

by Mary

My elderly parents activities center around field trips! They love them. Since neither Mom or Dad drive any longer it does fall on me to take them places, however we have an agreement that only a certain day of the week should be planned for these as they know I work and take care of my kids (both are teenagers). We have been known to go to the zoo, the museum, sometimes to free music concerts in the park,(when they happen) and many other "almost" physical activities...Mom has a walker and Dad drive an electric cart. The issue as always is time and the amount thereof that eats into the day so fast! I guess having made a commitment to be the caregiver to my elderly parents tends to make me less concerned although I have a life that they understand...I am very lucky in that regard.

When at home they also like to listen to elderly music from their era, like Benny Goodman and Perry Como, things like that. It is difficult not to listen as they have it turned up so loud....

Anyway that's my idea..great website by the way.

Thanks

Well, It is indeed a great thing to take them on field trips once in a while which would be a great relaxation for them and will part them a refreshing aura, which is so essential in that age, where they may have nothing much to do being at home.

Fun for my Dad
by: CC

My dad has a hard time getting around, can not hear well and will not use a wheel chair, but sometimes a walker. I wish I could find day trips they would enjoy.

I just got back from a cruise with them and it was too hard on my dad. I have to find stuff where he does not have to walk much
