Low Income Housing
by: Anonymous

Does your mom qualify for low income or senior only state housing? I know in the state where we live there are actually apartment's that are nicer than my house that are specified low income/senior housing.

Would it be cheaper you you to just supplement her income while she rents? Is it because she has pets that you feel you have to buy a house? You have to do some research, but there might be some programs available to help your mom with income assistance.

As a last resort, you can buy her a house (put your name on it someway (consult a lawyer or real estate professional, so she cannot get a loan on it) and just be thankful she is independent enough to not need everyday care and be forced to move into your house.

Elder Housing Options - Cost over Convenience
by: Anonymous

Your mom will probably not be around much longer.

If you do not want her to move in with you, and you buy a house for her, it will still be YOUR house and you can sell it to recoup your money :)If you are going to help her, these would be the most cost-effective options for you. I am still torn on the subject - should we take care of the now elderly parents who raised us, or should they have planned to take care of themselves so we do not have to "raise" them later in life?
