Assistive Technology - Stair Lift Chairs have Really Helped Us

Stair Lift Chairs

To be quite honest, I was somewhat skeptical about stair lift chairs and their ability to provide much of a service for seniors. However, we have a number of elderly people in our church who were having a hard time or couldn’t navigate the stairs in the fellowship hall.

When we asked the congregation to chip in and we purchased one, I was amazed at how much easier it made life for some of our seniors. Stair lift chairs are these mechanical chairs in which a senior or otherwise disabled individual can sit down, push a button, and have the lift chair go up and down our stairway, saving knees, hips, and backs, not to mention the danger of falling.

We did a little bit of research and went out for bids and realized the stair lift chairs could be ordered from local medical supply companies as well as major manufacturers directly. We chose what we wanted, and the installers came and took care of everything, as we did not have anyone able to do this or was experienced with it.

In a nutshell, I can say that stair lift chairs really do help. It started me to wonder about my mother, living in a two story house going up and down those stairs. She is fine for now I think but as she ages this may be the right thing to do. We have always wanted her to stay in place as long as she can so this might be the way to extend her time at home.

Stair Lift Chairs - Assistive Technology was Something that I did not Think About
by: Anna

Thank you for the article. I got online and found over half a dozen major manufacturers and brands in the United States alone that produce stair lift chairs.

I am now in the process of comparing options, prices, and model features, but can guarantee that I'm going to have one installed in my parent’s house within the next month.

I had a mechanical stair lift chair installed in my mom's house because she could no longer navigate the stairs between the first and second floor and moving her was a tough thing for her to think about.

The increase in mobility and independence as well a sense of security that the stair lift chair gives her is amazing, and priceless. She was beginning to stay in the living room even at night as she was finding it harder and harder to get up those stairs. She said nothing and we did not know until we stayed over one weekend.
